Care and Cleaning of Natural Cowhides
How to Properly Clean a Cowhide
Keep Your Natural Cowhide Rug Looking Beautiful for Years
There are few rugs as easy to care for as a cowhide rug. Cowhides are natural products, self-cleaning, and incredibly low maintenance! Our high-quality cowhides maintain their unique appearance for years without the need for special care products.
Regular Vacuuming
For daily cleaning, simply vacuum your cowhide thoroughly and regularly. When cleaning your cowhide, use a low suction setting to minimise hair loss. Always vacuum in the direction of the hair growth, never against it!
Air Out Your Cowhide Rug Occasionally
Brushing and shaking out your cowhide rug in the fresh air is beneficial. Exposure to oxygen-rich air naturally cleanses cowhides. Regular airing helps keep your hide hygienic and preserves its antibacterial properties.
Removing Stains
If stains do occur, try to remove them by gently wiping in the direction of the hair growth with a damp cloth. Avoid scrubbing too hard, as excessive friction can damage the hairs. For particularly stubborn stains, use a mild shampoo, such as our specialised shampoo.
Important Care Guidelines
WARNING: Exposure to artificial heat sources can cause the leather of natural cowhides to become hard and brittle. Direct sunlight may also cause discolouration.
WARNING: Cowhides must never be washed in a washing machine!
Professional Cleaning
For stubborn stains, we offer a professional cleaning service (available only for customers in Germany and Austria). Please note that the detailed information on our professional sheepskin cleaning service is available in German only.
